We Cheer the Comeback!

Sharing meals together as a family is an important tradition and research shows that the family dinner boosts kids’ grades, leads to healthier eating habits, and (believe it or not) helps relieve parental stress! Despite the feeling that there’s not enough time – soccer practices, dance rehearsals, playdates, and other scheduling conflicts can make family mealtime a challenge – 59% of families report eating dinner together at least five times a week – an increase from 47% in 1998!

Studies have shown the benefits of  family mealtime:

  • Shared family meals are more likely to be nutritious.
  • Kids who eat regularly with their families are less likely to snack on unhealthy foods and more likely to eat fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Teens who take part in regular family meals are less likely to smoke, drink alcohol, or use marijuana and other drugs.
  • Teens who share meals with their families are more likely to have healthier diets as adults.
